I am Mia Gutierrez, a contemporary visual artist. I am from Arizona and I spend most of my time creating. I have always been creative and in tune with the arts. In my younger years, I used to focus on music as my primary medium. I wanted to expand however, and tried learning about the performing arts by doing theater. My perspective changed however when I took a photography class my junior year of high school. In my photography class, I realized my creative potential, this eventually paved my way for becoming the artist I am today. I started taking my art career seriously in the year 2020, during the spring semester of my first year of college. I took a drawing class in the fall of 2019 and loved it, so much so that I decided to major in the visual arts.
Some of my major accomplishments as an artist can be seen in the works of art that I have done and the mediums I have learned. In the Summer of 2021 I took a stop motion animation class, for my final I created a 1 minute long video. This took many hours of hard work and labor, personally that video was my favorite work of art that I had ever produced.
The artwork that I have produced over the course of college has been in the form of many mediums. I feel confident in the following mediums and artistic practices; photography, video making, painting, drawing, ceramics, stop motion animation, and even makeup. I am currently studying to be an art teacher at ASU, so my goal is to learn as many artistic techniques, mediums and practices as possible. My artwork tends to have many colors, wavy designs and abstract conceptualism. When I work on my art I tend to ask myself, "how can I make this bizarre image in my head come to life?". I strive to make the images that are "unreal" in my thoughts become real through the use of different artistic mediums. I like to experiment with different principles of design throughout my creation process as well.
My intention as an artist is to explore the imagination as much as possible. I want others to look at my work and see something they've never seen before. I do not like replicating what can be seen, I strive to create art thats unheard of, unthought of and unmade.
